ACG Los Angeles Special Event
For Members Only
An Institute of Hope:
The Eli and Edythe Broad Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research
Keck School of Medicine, USC
Please join your fellow ACG LA members for this exclusive opportunity to hear presentations by some of the brightest minds in science on their research of stem cells, its implications for humanity and the opportunities for technology transfer. A private tour of the state-of-the-art research labs and cocktail reception will follow.
March 8, 2011
3:00 p.m. Networking and Registration
3:30 p.m. Presentations/Discussions
5:00 p.m. Lab Tours
5:30 p.m. Reception
USC Keck School of Medicine
1425 N. San Pablo Street, Los Angeles, 90089
Our speakers, world-renown researchers at the Center and members of USC’s technology transfer staff, will discuss their fascinating research using stem cells on the numerous diseases of the human heart, wound healing, hair re-growth, skin rejuvenation and other serious medical conditions and how companies can leverage this breakthrough research.
Martin Pera, Ph.D., Professor and Founding Director. Dr. Pera’s research focuses on the translation of the effects of cell communication in the embryo at the time of implantation in the womb, which specifies cell fate during development, to similar communication in vitro which may control stem cell maintenance and differentiation into other cell types.
Henry Sukov, Ph.D. Dr. Sukov’s research focuses on the cellular and molecular basis of cardiovascular development. Understanding this development provides insight into the causes of congenital cardiovascular defects, which are the most common class of birth defects, and is also relevant for therapies for adult heart disease.
Krzysztof Kobielak, Ph.D. Dr. Kobielak studies bone morphogenetic protein and its role in stem cell development into hair or skin cells. This research can potentially help understand how stem cells can be utilized for regenerative medicine, and may also help in understanding how some cancers form.
About the Center
Stem cell biology and regenerative medicine are believed by many to hold vast potential for taking biology and medicine into a new scientific era. Located on USC's Health Sciences campus, the Eli and Edythe Broad Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research at USC is a premier science and research project that pursues investigation into the biological mechanisms that control stem cell behavior.
Join us for this first in a series of "Member Only" events, exploring Los Angeles’ hidden opportunities.
